Following the news that Elisabeth Moss would be replaced by Jessica Biel in true crime thriller Candy, the Hulu series has announced another bit of casting.
Orange is the New Black star Pablo Schreiber is on board to play the role of Allan Gore in the limited series, appearing alongside Biel and Melanie Lynskey.
Candy follows the story of Candy Montgomery (Biel), a devout Christian who killed friend and neighbour Betty Gore (Lynskey) with an axe in the early 1980s.
Candy was also having an affair with Betty's husband Allan, a Silicon Prairie engineer, which he claimed to have ended a few months prior to his wife's death.
Candy claimed during her trial that Betty swung the axe at her first during a confrontation over the affair, and she swung back in self-defence, and was ultimately found not guilty of murder.
The show's synopsis notes that Candy "seemingly had it all – loving husband with a good job, a daughter and a son, a nice house in the brand new suburbs. So why did she kill her friend from church?"
Biel will also be executive producing the series, with Michael Uppendahl (Mad Men, Fargo) set to direct the pilot. The Act's Robin Veith and Nick Antosca have developed the series.
Schreiber is perhaps best known for George 'Pornstache' Mendez in Orange is the New Black, and has also appeared in American Gods as Mad Sweeney.
Candy will air on Hulu.
