Records: WFHS 3-7; Grapevine 7-3.

Players to watch: WFHS, Bricen Vialpando (QB, Sr.), Ivy Kelley (DB, So.), Ayden Ramirez (DB, Sr.); Grapevine, Caleb Texada (RB, Sr.), Parker Polk (RB/WR, Jr.), Latham Wai (LB, Jr.).

The rundown: This is the first meeting between the two programs who have won a combined eight state titles. The Coyotes and Mustangs are coming off opposite ends of blowouts. Grapevine finished its regular season with an 86-6 victory against Fort Worth Wyatt. The Mustangs were never challenged in District 4-5A Division II, scoring at least 42 points in each game. They posted scores of 72, 73 and 68 points during district. The Mustangs went 1-3 in non-district, playing four playoff teams with a combined 31-9 record. … Old High is back in the playoffs for the third time in the past four seasons. The Coyotes are averaging 23.8 points per game. They averaged 44 points in their three wins and just 15 points in seven losses. The Coyote offense goes as far as quarterback Bricen Vialpando takes it. Vialpando is 12 rushing yards from reaching 1,000 yards passing and rushing this season. He’s completed 105 of 197 passes for 1,286 yards, 14 TDs and 10 interceptions, while rushing for 988 yards and 13 TDs.

REGION I-3A DIVISION II

HOLLIDAY VS. JACKSBORO

Players to watch: Holliday, Austin Jones (RB/DB, Sr.), Jaxx Johnson (RB/LB, Jr.), Cason Foster (OL/LB, Sr.); Jacksboro, Lando Belcher (QB/DB, So.), Peyton Kinman (WR, Jr.), Baylor Laake (RB, Jr.).

The rundown: Jacksboro could have been the No. 1 seed in District 5-3A Division II with a win against Millsap last week. Instead, the Tigers fell short and dropped to the fourth seed. That’s the difference between opening the playoffs against City View – a team Jacksboro beat by 24 points during the regular season – and Holliday. … The Eagles are allowing 10.3 points per game and haven’t surrendered more than 16 points to an opponent. Holliday’s offense averages 43 points per game, featuring a multitude of ball carriers out of a wing-T base. The Eagles have seven players who have rushed for at least 166 yards, including leading rusher Austin Jones who has 579 and 10 TDs on 66 carries. … Jacksboro also runs primarily out of a wing-T set but has thrown the ball more with sophomore Lando Belcher at quarterback. Belcher has thrown for 1,015 yards, seven TDS and four interceptions in his last three games. Peyton Kinman has total 500 receiving yards and four TDs during that span.

REGION II-2A DIVISION II

ARCHER CITY VS. CROSBYTON

Records: Archer City 7-2; Crosbyton 4-6.

Last game: Archer City 55, Seymour 6; Ralls 52, Crosbyton 12.

Last meeting: Archer City 47, Crosbyton 0 (2010 bi-district).

Players to watch: Archer City, Ty Bates (QB/LB, Sr.), Hudson Williams (OL/DL, Sr.), Gunner Smith (LB, Jr.); Crosbyton, Eric Marquez (QB/LB, Sr.), AJ Pesina (RB/WR/DB, Sr.), Dylan Doss (WR/DB, So.).

The rundown: Archer City and Crosbyton met in the bi-district playoffs 11 years ago with the Wildcats dominating for a 47-0 victory. Crosbyton was led by current Jacksboro coach Brannon Rodgers in that game. … The Wildcats are in the postseason with the No. 1 seed after winning their first district title in 13 years. This is Crosbyton’s first playoff appearance since 2018. The Chiefs haven’t won a playoff game since 2016. … Crosbyton and Archer City share Munday as a common opponent. The Chiefs pulled away late to beat Munday, 27-16. Archer City defeated the Moguls 49-7.

Players to watch: Seymour, Brayden Loyd (QB/DB, Fr.), David Charo (WR/DB, So.), Tabor Wyatt (WR/DB, Jr.); Lockney, Nathan Ceniceros (RB/LB, Sr.), Pablo Morales (QB/DB, Sr.), Austin Rodriguez (WR/LB, Sr.).

The rundown: Seymour has made the postseason in seven straight seasons. Lockney is making consecutive playoff appearances for the first time since 2004-05. The Longhorns haven’t won a playoff game since 2004. … Seymour has played the last two weeks without sophomore quarterback Keegan Gilbreath, who is the area’s leading passer. The results have been mixed. Freshman Brayden Loyd threw for a school-record 540 yards against Munday but was intercepted five times last week in a loss to Archer City. … Lockney features a run-heavy offense, but it’s the Longhorns’ defense, allowing 17.9 points per game, that has them believing they can end their playoff win drought. However, the Longhorns have surrendered 90 points in their last two games combined.

OLNEY VS. RALLS

Players to watch: Olney, Gatlin Guy (QB/DB, So.), Jovani Rockmore (RB/LB, Jr.), Jonathan Melchor (RB/LB, Sr.); Ralls, Coby Rendon (OL/DL, Sr.), Sergio Salinas (RB/DL, Sr.), Ryno Garcia (QB/DB, Sr.).

The rundown: Olney is making consecutive postseason appearances for the first time since 1999-2000. The Cubs haven’t won a playoff game since 2000. This is Ralls fourth straight playoff berth, and the Rabbits have won a playoff game the last two seasons. … Both teams feature run heavy offenses. Ralls runs out of the slot-T, featuring senior Sergio Salinas as the team’s leading rusher and receiver. … Olney features the triple option form the flexbone. Quarterback Gatlin Guy is coming off a 333-yard rushing performance against Quanah. That effort made him the area’s leading rusher with 1,339 yards on 177 carries.

QUANAH VS. ROSCOE

Records: Quanah 2-8; Roscoe 8-1.

Last meeting: Quanah 51, Roscoe 22 (2020 bi-district).

Players to watch: Quanah, Jakobe McGary (RB/LB, Sr.), Jaron Honea (WR/DB, Sr.), Cason Northam (OL/LB, Sr.); Roscoe, Antonio Aguayo (RB/WR, Sr.), Jax Watts (QB/DB, So.), Trace Guelker (LB, Jr.).

The rundown: This is the second straight season Roscoe and Quanah have met in the bi-district round. Last year, Roscoe was a one-win team and suffered a 51-22 loss to the district champion Indians. This season, the Plowboys are a one-loss team and favored to win by a similar score. … Quanah overcame several key injuries early in the season to make a playoff run. The Indians feature senior Jakobe McGary at tailback. McGary ranks third in the area with 1,177 rushing yards and 14 TDs. … Roscoe does its best to get the ball in the hands of playmaker Antonio Aguayo, who is the team’s leading rusher and receiver.
